He chuckled and slipped his hand over her cheek, brushing over it lightly. “I don’t have to leave yet,” He said, kissing her forehead gently. “But I will have to eventually, I wish I didn’t have to. But I still- ” He sighed and dropped his hand from her face to his sides. “I still need to find out who I am. I don’t remember anything,” He muttered, his voice getting quieter as he spoke. “All I remember is my name, I don’t know where I’m from, where I was planning on going, or how I ended up on this beach. I need to find those friends I think I’m looking for,” Axel sat down in the sand, with his legs crossed, steadying himself back on his palms and looking up at the sky. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad I’m here and I’m glad I met you. But it’s horrible, just not knowing who I am.” He looked up at the girl, and patted the sand beside him, inviting her to sit down with him.

Kairi’s eyebrows furrowed into a concerned position. She felt every word he said; she felt it in her bones. Kairi had dealt with this before though. When Sora and Riku left, she was alone. The only positive aspect being that she couldn’t remember them to miss them. But now.. She bit into her lip to keep her tears from spilling over the rims of her eyelids. Kairi knew she wouldn’t have that luxury if he left. She wouldn’t have someone to block out Axel and her memories with him. She couldn’t forget him.
As he gestured for her to sit down, she took in a shaky gulp of air and lowered herself next to him, wishing she could say something, but she knew her voice would crack and she would start to cry. Kairi hugged her knees to her chest, snuggling down into his cloak. She understood, it wasn’t that she didn’t hurt for him. Kairi knew how hard it was to not remember. Biting her lip harder, she curled deeper into herself, tasting the blood from her lip as she struggled to hold back her tears. This was the only part she could ever play; always waiting. Always left behind.

When she didn’t say anything, Axel started to worry. I said the wrong thing didn’t I, damnit. Why do girls have to be so difficult? He risked looking over at her, and saw blood start to break through the skin of her lower lip. He didn’t know what to say, he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t remember anything, how to act around other people, how to comfort other people. He did the only thing he knew how to do with Kairi, and took her in his arms again. Letting her lean against him and use his body for support. “I’m sorry,” He whispered into her hair and sighed, disappointed in himself. “Can I ask you a question, Kairi?”
