He felt his skin tingle after she kissed his cheek and a smile tugged at his lips. “Are you sure?” He asked, not wanting her to make a snap decision because she had spent one night with him. Even if he did think they had bonded so much over the last few hours, if she went with him and ended up regretting the decision when it was too late…he didn’t think he could live with that anymore than he could live without her in his life at all. He leaned down and kissed her neck, taking in the scent of her hair and her skin. If she changed her mind, this would be the last chance he’d get.
Kairi clung to him and nodded, looking up at him and toying with his hair. She shivered as a gust of wind blew the hair off of her neck. Her eyes were beginning to get heavy, but she felt so secure right here—with him. Kairi’s heart dropped to her stomach and burst into a million butterflies. ”Are you sure you can take me?” she asked cautiously. She wanted to go with him more than anything. But if he wasn’t positive then she would stay behind. No matter how much it hurt her heart. Kairi buried her face in her chest and sighed, goosebumps rising on her skin as the wind howled through the palm trees.
Axel pushed his arms into the cloak with her, hoping his body heat would help keep her warm. He looked down at her, watching her eyelids begin to droop. He chuckled quietly, pulling her closer into his body. “I’m sure, Kairi,” He lifted her head and kissed her lips softly. “I will do everything in my power to make sure you stay with me.” Axel lifted Kairi and moved her just below the tree. “Wait here,” He whispered, kissing her forehead lightly before returning down the beach to where they had eaten their ice creams.
After several minutes, he returned to the girl with a stack of blankets, and began to arrange them all around the tree, making sure to build his masterpiece with Kairi already inside. Axel briefly stepped back and overlooked the fort, then pulled back the ‘door’ of the structure and crawled in beside Kairi. “C'mere,” He said, making his lap look as comfortable and appealing as he could.
